The World of Acting, The World of Words and Body.
Hello, I am Yamanote Jijosha only foreigner Paul.
Everyday I am crushing against the wall of "Words" and "Rupamu".
Why is it so difficult to express what you feel in a foreign language?
Why is it also so refreshing and fun? I found an answer for myself.
I believe that through acting my true self and my role start melting together.
But somewhere while acting there exists a logical me, who keeps myself in check, remembering my mistakes and points I want to improve. In my case, Japanese speaking correct Japanese is also something my logical self has to check.
Those Japanese mistakes are big challenge to me. People who have studied a foreign language very hard may understand that thinking is basically done in pictures and words. Changing your own words is like outright rejecting yourself. Especially when you want to also sound correct, you have to change your breathing and body movements (tongue, lips). Different then from acting, you have to be careful 24 hours a day.
And that is the amazing thing. Actors who use their mother tongue have the chance to search for a new part of themselves and express it through their role. In cases like mine where you act in a foreign language, I believe I have to become a new existence to accomplish my goals.
